CHECK DAM RECONSTRUCTION
Across Noyyal River Mangalam Village (Year 2004)

A Water Body Reborn

Mangalam Anaicut got breached in 1984 during a flash flood on noyyal river.

At Vetry, we took up the challenge to revive this vital resource. In partnership with the Public Works Department, Tamil Nadu, and under the Self Sufficiency Scheme of Tamil Nadu, the anaicut has been fully rejuvenated in the year 2005. Through a focused approach combining sustainable water management and grassroots involvement, the anaicut today functions as a reliable and essential source of water actively supporting the needs of the local population.

ANDIPALAYAM LAKE – A REVIVAL OF LIFE AND WATER

Once a vital water source in Tiruppur, Andipalayam Lake had slipped into neglect—choked by silt, damaged bunds, and water inaccessibility. The consequences were clear: a lowered groundwater table, lost biodiversity, and a critical blow to local irrigation.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Vetry stepped in to initiate the lake’s rejuvenation.

A Big Step Towards Water Security

What followed was a large-scale, community-driven initiative—led by Vetry and powered by the people.
In 2013, the rejuvenation process began with volunteers, social organizations, industries, and the public coming together in an extraordinary show of unity. With the unwavering support of the Public Works Department (PWD), Tamil Nadu and the Tiruppur Municipal Corporation (TMC), the transformation of Andipalayam Lake became a shared mission.

The Rejuvenation Process – Restoring a Lifeline

Impact That Flows Beyond the Lake

The rejuvenation of Andipalayam Lake has produced measurable and lasting outcomes:

Sustaining the Flow of Change

Vetry’s work didn’t stop with Andipalayam Lake.

In collaboration with the Public Works Department, Tiruppur District Administration, and Tiruppur Corporation, Vetry continues its mission to enhance water resources across the region—reviving abandoned lakes, repairing check dams, and building sustainable water infrastructure.
The rejuvenation of Andipalayam Lake is more than just a restored water body.
It’s a movement.
A movement to rebuild, restore, and reimagine the future—one drop at a time.

Orathupalayam Dam Restoring the Roots, Replanting the Future

Reclaiming Noyyal’s Legacy Through Green Revival

Once a hub of flourishing trade in pearls and silk, the Noyyal River region near the Thangaman Temple has long been woven into the cultural and economic fabric of Tamil tradition. But over time, the land faced decline its water sources dwindled, and its once-productive landscape was overtaken by the invasive gum Arabic tree, a species offering no ecological or economic value.

Recognizing the need for environmental revival and cultural restoration, Vetry Foundation, spearheaded a bold ecological initiative to rejuvenate this sacred land on fifth of August 2024. With guidance from Kirthuraj IAS, District Collector of Tiruppur, and the unwavering support of local communities, a transformative afforestation mission was born.

From Invasion to Innovation

This began as a patch of 45 acres overrun by gum Arabic trees has now blossomed into a symbol of resilience. Through extensive efforts, including creating water channels and installing solar-powered lighting, the land has been cleared and repurposed for meaningful reforestation. Over 45,000 trees across 110 different species have taken root, breathing new life into the soil. With over ₹50 lakhs invested, the initiative doesn’t stop at just planting trees. It is a comprehensive project that marries sustainability with tradition restoring biodiversity, enriching the local climate, and honoring the region’s deep connection to nature.

This is not just a top-down initiative; it is a story of collective ownership. Local farmers, once resigned to land degradation, offered their full support. They cleared gum arabic trees from their lands and opened their fields to nurture the new saplings. Their partnership is not just symbolic it is the backbone of this transformation.

Madurai’s Waterbodies Rejuvenation

For nearly two decades, VETRY, a reputed NGO founded by visionary business leaders in Tiruppur, has been synonymous with sustainable environmental efforts in its home district. Now, in a historic move, VETRY is stepping beyond Tiruppur to extend its impact this time to Madurai, by becoming an implementing partner in the city’s major waterbodies rejuvenation effort.

The highlight of this initiative is the donation of a Komatsu machine, valued at nearly ₹1 crore. The equipment, handed over through VETRY, will play a pivotal role in cleaning, restoring, and revitalizing key waterbodies across Madurai. This marks a significant milestone not just in the rejuvenation project itself, but also as VETRY’s first active environmental venture outside Tiruppur.

This powerful machine will significantly accelerate the restoration process by aiding in desilting, removing encroachments, and reshaping water channels. These activities are critical for improving water storage, recharging groundwater, and reducing flood risks ultimately supporting biodiversity, enhancing ecological health, and ensuring sustainable water management for Madurai’s growing population.

Let's make our earth a better place for upcoming generation.
